Roskilde University (RU) was founded in 1972 and has since its foundation been leading among European universities in rethinking traditional ways of approaching both teaching and research.

Roskilde University is one of the partners in the project Circular South Baltic. 

Their research has a special focus on responding to societal needs for knowledge and addressing complex issues in more holistic ways than is typically the case with traditional single disciplinarity research and teaching. 

The Circular South Baltic project is placed in the research group TRANSITIONS – Sustainability Transitions and Environmental Planning.

The TRANSITIONS group includes 25 researchers. The research focuses on environmental problems that arise from the exploitation of nature, resources, infrastructure and technology. Researchers in the group have played a leading role in several research projects on urban transformation and circular economy in the built environment.
